Luxury Elevator Interiors in the UAE: How to Specify Marble, Bronze and Wood
Compare bronze, marble and wood-effect lift interiors for UAE villas and towers, including weight, lighting, cleaning and refurbishment planning.
Published · Updated · Elevaya Lifts

Quick answer: Marble, bronze and wood can all be used in UAE elevator cabins, but not in the way they are used on a wall at home. Each finish has to respect the lift's rated load and cabin weight limits, fire-performance requirements for lift interiors, daily wear from passengers and luggage, and UAE heat and humidity. The usual solution is thin, engineered versions: stone veneers or lightweight stone panels, bronze-finish stainless steel or PVD-coated steel, and fire-rated wood veneer on non-combustible backing. Choose one hero material per cabin and coordinate it with the landing doors and lobby.
Luxury in a lift is about the few seconds a resident, guest or tenant spends in a small box. In a Downtown tower lobby, a Palm Jumeirah villa or a boutique hotel in Abu Dhabi, that box sets expectations for the whole building. Marble, bronze and wood are the three materials owners ask about most.
Elevaya has worked on lift and escalator design, supply, installation and AMC in the UAE since 2019, across more than 200 projects. This guide explains how each luxury material behaves in a cabin, what to watch in the UAE, and how to combine them without making the interior look dated in five years. For a broader view of the year's directions, see our elevator cabin design trends for 2026.
Why Luxury Cabin Materials Need Different Rules
A lift cabin is a moving, load-rated, safety-certified product. Three constraints shape every material choice:
- Weight. Every kilogram of decoration reduces the payload margin and loads the drive, ropes or hydraulic system. Heavy stone added after installation can push a cabin beyond its design weight.
- Fire performance. Interior linings in lifts are expected to meet fire-performance requirements so they do not feed a fire or produce excessive smoke. In Dubai, building fire and life-safety requirements and the Dubai Building Code set the framework your consultant will work to.
- Wear. Suitcases, trolleys, furniture moves and cleaning chemicals hit cabin walls daily, especially in residential towers and hotels.
That is why the luxury look is almost always created with engineered versions of natural materials, and why material changes in an existing lift should go through a modernization or cabin renovation process rather than an interior fit-out contractor working alone.

Classic Gulf luxury works when the stone stays calm.
Marble and Natural Stone
Where marble works best
- Cabin floors. The most common and most practical use. A stone floor that matches the lobby gives continuity as the doors open.
- Feature rear walls. A single book-matched or veined panel facing the doors creates the "wow" moment.
- Landing surrounds. Stone architraves around landing doors tie the lift into a marble lobby.
Practical points
- Use thin or lightweight stone. Stone veneers bonded to lightweight honeycomb panels give the look of solid marble at a fraction of the weight.
- Mind the floor recess. Cabin floors are built with a recess for the finish; the stone plus adhesive must fit it exactly so the sill stays level and there is no trip edge.
- Seal and choose finishes carefully. Polished white marble such as Statuario shows scratches and etching from acidic cleaners. Honed finishes or engineered stone can be more forgiving in high-traffic buildings.
- Think about slip resistance, especially near pools, beach-front entrances or where wet feet are likely.
Marble with gold or bronze accents
A marble floor with gold-tone wallpaper-style panels or brushed brass trim is a classic Gulf luxury look. It works when the metal is restrained and the stone is calm. If both are busy, the cabin feels crowded.

Thin stone panels deliver the all-marble look within weight limits.
Bronze and Gold-Tone Metals
Real bronze vs bronze finish
Solid bronze is heavy, expensive and needs regular polishing or a deliberate patina. Most "bronze" lift doors and cabins in the UAE use:
- PVD-coated stainless steel in bronze, champagne, rose gold or gold tones, which is hard-wearing and colour-stable.
- Bronze-tone hairline or etched stainless steel, which hides fingerprints better than mirror finishes.
- Selective solid brass or bronze trim on handrails or door edges for touch points.
Where bronze adds the most
- Landing doors, where the metal is seen from the lobby, often with gold or contrasting trim lines.
- Cabin side walls in bronze hairline with a contrasting feature panel.
- Ceilings, where a black and gold lit ceiling can carry the luxury theme without adding weight to the walls. Our guide to elevator ceiling lighting in the UAE covers options.
UAE considerations
Mirror-polished gold finishes show every fingerprint and scratch, which is a problem in busy towers. Brushed or textured finishes age far better. In coastal locations, confirm the base steel grade and coating are suitable for humid, salty air.

Wood cladding is applied over certified fire-rated doors.
Wood and Wood-Look Panels
Real wood veneer
Warm wood is the fastest way to make a cabin feel residential. Real wood veneers are used on fire-rated, non-combustible or limited-combustibility substrates so the cabin still meets fire requirements. Walnut, oak and teak tones are popular in villas and boutique hotels.
High-pressure laminates and wood-look metals
In high-traffic buildings, high-pressure laminate or printed and coated steel panels with a wood look give a warm appearance with better scratch and moisture resistance. Many owners cannot tell the difference once installed.
Wood landing doors and halls
Bespoke wood-panel landing doors and lift halls work well in villas and executive floors. Doors are fire-rated assemblies, so a wood finish is applied as cladding to a certified door, not as a replacement. Our guide on elevator landing doors explains what can and cannot be changed.
UAE considerations
Air-conditioning cycles and humidity cause solid timber to move. Veneered, stabilised panels and proper edge sealing prevent warping and lifting.

Panelled halls make the lift part of the joinery.
Combining Materials Without Overdoing It
Use a simple rule: one hero, one support, one accent.
| Style | Hero | Support | Accent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warm modern villa | Walnut veneer rear wall | Bronze hairline side walls | Stone floor |
| Classic Gulf luxury | Marble floor and rear wall | Gold-tone panels | Black and gold lit ceiling |
| All-stone minimal | Stone-look walls | Matching stone floor | Slim slatted or fluted metal doors |
| Hotel bronze | Bronze PVD walls and doors | Mirror panel (upper half) | Gold trim on landing doors |
Then coordinate the cabin with the control panels and handrails. A beautiful cabin with a plastic-looking COP undermines it. See our guides on elevator control panels and handrails and flooring.

A lit ceiling carries luxury without adding wall weight.
New Building vs Existing Lift
New installations
In a new project, choose the interior while the lift is being specified. The manufacturer can then size the cabin, drive and car frame for the finishes, and the cabin can arrive largely finished. Our installation service covers this end to end.
Existing lifts
For an existing lift, a cabin upgrade must stay within the original design weight, or the drive and safety components may need review. Typical steps:
- Survey the existing cabin, rated load and car weight.
- Propose finishes and calculate the weight change.
- Agree temporary out-of-service time with residents or tenants.
- Remove, install and re-commission, with load and safety checks.
Our lift cabin renovation guide and lift cabin wall panels guide give more detail. If the lift is old, combining the interior with a wider modernization can be more efficient than two separate shutdowns.
Keeping Luxury Finishes Looking New
Luxury cabins deteriorate quickly without a cleaning and maintenance routine:
- Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone and coated metals.
- Fit protective blankets during move-ins and deliveries.
- Inspect panel fixings and trims during scheduled maintenance visits.
- Replace damaged panels promptly so damage does not spread.
Key Takeaways
- Marble, bronze and wood all work in UAE lifts when engineered for weight, fire performance and wear.
- Choose thin stone, PVD-coated steel and fire-rated veneers over heavy solid materials.
- Use one hero material and coordinate panels, handrails, ceilings and landing doors.
- Upgrade existing cabins through a proper renovation or modernization process.
- Build cleaning and protection into the building's routine and AMC.

FAQ
Can I put real marble in my elevator cabin?
Yes, usually on the floor and sometimes as a feature wall, but use thin or lightweight stone panels within the cabin's design weight. A lift engineer should check the weight before installation.
Are wood interiors allowed in UAE lifts?
Wood finishes are widely used, typically as fire-rated veneers on suitable substrates. Your lift contractor and consultant should confirm the products meet the applicable fire-performance requirements.
What is the most durable luxury finish for a busy tower lift?
Brushed or textured PVD-coated stainless steel in bronze or champagne tones is among the most durable, combined with a honed stone or engineered-stone floor.
Can I upgrade my lift interior without replacing the lift?
Often yes, through a cabin renovation that keeps within the original design weight. Older lifts may benefit from a combined interior and mechanical modernization.
How do I stop gold and bronze finishes showing fingerprints?
Choose hairline, brushed or textured finishes instead of mirror polish, and clean with soft cloths and pH-neutral products.
