Is my building in Sharjah or Dubai?
Al Nahda is split by the Dubai–Sharjah border. Al Nahda 1 and 2 on the Dubai side are Dubai Municipality communities, while Al Nahda, Sharjah is a separate Sharjah district. Sahara Centre is on the Sharjah side near the border. The two sides use different tenancy registration, utilities and authorities, so the first job is to check your tenancy contract, your title deed or your utility bills to see where your building is.
| Sharjah side | Dubai side | |
|---|---|---|
| Municipality | Sharjah City Municipality. Municipal complaints line: 993 | Dubai Municipality |
| Safety authority | Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA) | Dubai Civil Defence, and Dubai Municipality for lift certification |
| Lift guidance | SPSA guideline OSHJ-GL-05 (July 2024): lifts should be serviced at least monthly and thoroughly examined at least every 6 months by a competent inspection body. The guideline sets minimum compliance expectations within its stated scope (buildings below 30 floors); confirm the requirements for your property | Dubai Municipality GU48: certification by an EIAC-accredited third party every 12 months. EIAC's rules for inspection bodies say 6 months for lifts |
| Emergency number | 997 for Civil Defence | 997 for Civil Defence |
What do I do when a lift stops in Al Nahda?
- If someone is inside, tell them to stay calm, use the alarm or intercom and not force the doors. Call building security, and call 997 for a fire or rescue emergency, or 998 for a medical emergency.
- Report it in writing to the landlord or building manager: the building, the lift, the time and what happened.
- Ask for the maintenance contractor's name and a written fault report.
- Keep the lift out of use until a technician has checked it, even if it seems to work again.
- Escalate if nothing happens. On the Sharjah side, Sharjah City Municipality takes municipal complaints on 993. On the Dubai side, owners' committees can take building-management complaints to RERA.
